A little about myself.

Welcome to my portfolio! My name is Stephanie. I was born and raised in Stockton, CA and have resided in Chico, CA after graduating with a BA in communication design. It’s been an exciting ride exploring the world of art and design, and there is no end to the inspiration I receive from the natural beauty of where I live and through my love of human connection. I’ve been creating art and design for over 20 years now and through my experiences I have really grown to understand how to bring my unique style to the table.

First off, I will proudly admit that I am a die-hard fan of a tactile approach to everything I create. I always start with a rigorous series of drawings, paintings, and drafts. When it comes to graphic design, I then move those drafts to a digital form and clean them up. This approach really ensures that with every design I make, there is some human touch involved, and that is always a good thing!

I have been labeled a "colorist" on a few occasions. During the creative process some of the first things I think about are the appropriateness of color, interaction between colors and how effective they are at communicating an idea. My very first painting instructor took my black paint away, forcing me to perceive light and shadow in color, and it has still stuck with me to this day. I have been an avid fan of cartoons my entire life and this has also shaped the way I see the power color can have psychologically and how it can direct the viewers attention. It is important to me to find the perfect balance of simplicity and uniqueness that sparks people's curiosity and attention.

My interests beyond art and design include nature, animation, puppetry, children's literature, music, baking and cycling . My dream is to find some way to devote my skills to these interests and to create products that I can take pride in.
